6 Factors In Choosing Ideal Sandwich Board Signs

Sandwich Board signs are not to be taken lightly. When used properly, they can direct a retail establishment toward success. When used improperly, they can spell disaster. Learning about the factors below, and efficiently implementing them, is crucial.

1. Consider climate

Weather will be a deciding factor in which materials to choose for your sign. Placing an a-frame sidewalk sign that is not properly weighted down will be fruitless during windy days. Signs that swing in the wind or that have a strong, weighted foundation would better serve the purpose. As another example, chalk will not do well in rain or wet weather. Properly fitted plastic lettering would do better during wet weather forecasts. Taking weather into consideration is crucial for choosing the ideal sidewalk sign.

2. Check with zoning laws

Zoning laws determine what is acceptable and what is unacceptable as far as public signs are concern. Laws will specify size, location, and message limitations. Failing to comply with applicable zoning ordinances can result in punitive damages. Punitive damages can include fines, penalties, sign removal or other measures deemed necessary.

3. Go for variety

Having a variety of sidewalk signs available will serve many purposes. In days of troubling weather, you can choose a weather-appropriate sign. Temporary signs fit in perfectly for changing specials, announcements, or other information on a whim. Materials can range from plastic lettering to chalk. Having sidewalk signs with permanent message are ideal for improving loyalty, lead generation, and convenience.

Many sign manufacturers offer discounts for multiple purchases. Taking advantage of these special pricing options can prove worthwhile for any retail establishment.

4. Consider hours

Consider what hours the sidewalk sign will be in usage. Having a chalkboard sandwich board during evening hours, for instance, will be pointless. An LED message board that lights up would be more appropriate for these hours. Chalkboard sandwich boards are ideal during daylight hours.

5. Consider budget

Sidewalk signs come in all sizes, shapes, and materials. These factors determine the costs involved. A firm understanding about how much money is available is needed before choosing any sign. Having a set budget for signage, and staying within it, will spell success and hinder disaster.

6. Consider location

Many communities take pride in maintaining a certain type of atmosphere or specific ambiance. Choosing a sidewalk sign that does not fit in with the location can ruin a retail establishment’s reputation with the local community and industry, harm sales, and cause legal problems. Having a large brightly lit LED sidewalk sign may fit in perfectly on the Vegas strip, for instance, but it will be totally inappropriate for the small town walkable community.

When choosing a sidewalk sign make certain size or location will not hinder any traffic flow, both pedestrian and motorist-wise. Nothing is more frustrating than having to maneuver around a misplaced sign. Sidewalks need to provide a continuous walking path without distractions or altered routes. Pedestrians must be able to access adjacent sidewalks, side streets and surrounding buildings. Having a sign disrupt traffic flow can hinder a company’s reputation, loyalty, brand awareness, and sales. It can signify disaster.

Sidewalk signs can play an important role in a retail establishment’s marketing strategy. Consulting with a sign professional can be a wise business decision to save time, money, and resources.
